NPR recently posted a list of the top 100 Sci-fi/Fantasy books as voted on by it's listeners. The list is technically more than 100 books as some items contain multiple books. For example, the Lord of the Rings trilogy is number one. I thought it would be interesting to see what YOU'D put on the list if you had the chance and I'm going to do the same. Here goes...

1) Battlefield Earth - L. Ron Hubbard
2) The Pendragon Cycle - Stephen R. Lawhead
3) Saga of the Pliocene Exile - Julian May
4) Incarnations of Immortality series - Piers Anthony
5) Crystal Singer - Anne McAffrey

Those are just some of the books I'd add to that list if I had the chance. I realize not every book can be in the top 100, and in fact there are some books in their list that I don't feel belong there. I'll just keep reading until I can't any more. To quote Ray Camden: "I can't die, I've got too many good books to read."

I'm surprised that The Draco Tavern by David Niven didn't make the list. There are a couple that I wouldn't list as SciFi, but it is a wide ranging category to many. It looks like some made the list due to movies that were made from them more than the book(s).

I would have placed Moorcock's Elric Saga a bit higher.

I know there was a lot of discussion on how they should have split the list into SciFi and Fantasy. I would have included the Gaean Trilogy by John Varley.

Wow, loved The Pendragon Cycle, but read them back in the late 80s to early 90s. My current top five... Hogfather - Terry Pratchett Titus Groan - Mervyn Peake A Canticle For Leibowitz - Walter M. Miller Jr. Fahrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury Hylozoic - Rudy Rucker

Thanks for commenting Bill. Of the books you mentioned I've only ever read Fahrenheit.

Walter M. Miller's 'A Canticle For Leibowitz' is one of my all-time favourites. You should give it a try.
